A “Real Housewives of New Jersey” Cast Member’s Home Was Burglarized & She Was Assaulted: Here’s What To Learn
Former Real Housewives of New Jersey star Dina Manzo’s Holmdel home was recently burglarized. Manzo and her boyfriend, who were attending her daughter’s first communion, were attacked after they arrived home and surprised 2 intruders who were in the process of burglarizing the home. Ms. Manzo had to go to the hospital for facial injuries and the couple’s lawyer told People magazine that they “are obviously shaken up from the traumatic and violent home invasion and robbery.”
This highlights a recent trend of high-profile, celebrity burglaries that have been occurring around the New York City metro area and Los Angeles. Just since January, stars from Kendall Jenner to former New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher have been burglarized, and the LAPD has even built a special task force devoted to specifically catching the burglars who target celebrities.
Celebrities aren’t the only ones.
Celebrities are often targeted by burglars because their social calendars are so easy to track, and the thieves can often correctly guess when their houses will be unoccupied. Interestingly, as we’ve written about in the past, burglars are using social media to track everyday people’s schedules in a similar way. These days, you don’t have to be a “celebrity” to be targeted; if you’re active on social media, you’re a target. Those who are high-profile members of the community are at risk as well, as we saw with Manzo. If thieves know you’ll be at a church event or school function, you could be targeted.
The authorities and media made no mention of a security system in place at Manzo’s residence, and the criminals haven’t been caught. They were wearing masks when they committed the crime, and they tied and blindfolded Manzo and her boyfriend while they ransacked the property. Kris Herzog, the owner of a Beverly Hills security firm, told ArchitecturalDigest.com (“Celebrity Home Burglaries Are on the Rise, But Is There a Way to Prevent Them?” — Posted March 17, 2017) that in his estimation 90 percent of celebrities don’t have the proper security systems in place. He also said “these crimes are becoming the new normal, people have to change their response.” According to Herzog, the best way to prevent these break-ins is to invest in “a physical system of cameras” on the property that are linked to your smartphone.
Here at Supreme Security Systems, we offer exactly that. If Manzo had a similar system in place, it may have prevented thousands of dollars worth of possessions from being stolen. From a single camera to multiple cameras with DVR, Supreme can assess your needs and design a video surveillance security system that will keep your family and property safe. If you’re a high-profile member of society, or even a local celebrity, you should strongly consider investing in a video surveillance system in conjunction with alarm system. On top of that, we have a few practical tips that can reduce your odds of being devastated by a burglary.
Don’t post your plans on social media.
Don’t post your plans on social media. If you have many followers, your profile could be viewed thousands, if not millions of times, and the last thing you want to do is give a criminal motivation to target you. Having a dummy safe in plain view is also a good idea as it can act as a decoy to burglars. Have a real safe installed in a hidden location and make sure it’s bolted to the ground. There are many more practical strategies you could utilize to lower your risk of being targeted, but when it boils down to it, the safest and most effective way to protect your family and your property is to invest in a professionally installed security system. We offer motion detection, perimeter protection, glass break detection and multi-area arming for a complete security solution. Our alarm systems are professionally installed, well designed and easily integrated into other security system for maximum protection. Put your mind at ease knowing your property is optimally protected with Supreme Security Systems.
