Amazon Alexa Makes Controlling Your Home Security System More Convenient

“Alexa, play Adele.”

“Alexa, what’s the temperature outside?”
“Alexa, order more popcorn.”

We all know that Amazon’s Alexa is a handy home helper. She can play any song you want to hear, tell you the weather, even order your favorite snacks. “She” is a perfect example of how technology can be used to make our lives easier. With her wide range of recognizable commands or “skills” it seems like she can do everything!

Alexa has gotten another skill; she can now integrate with SupremeConnect. The new skill allows Alexa to arm and check the status of your home’s security system.

How does the integration work?

The skill is free for our SupremeConnect users if they own an Amazon Alexa device. To download, open the Alexa app on your iOS or Android device and search for Honeywell’s Total Connect or DMP’s Virtual Keypad in the skills section. After clicking “enable” follow prompts until you have successfully linked your account.

Now, you can ask Alexa to:

  • Check the status of the security system.
  • Check if the security system armed.
  • Arm my system.
  • Arm my system away.
  • Arm my system stay.

Why do I need this?

Has this ever happened to you? You’ve gone upstairs to bed, gotten nice and cozy, when a thought pops into your head, “Did I remember to arm the security system?” Normally, you would just check the SupremeConnect app on your phone to find out, but you don’t want to look at a blue light emitting screen so close to bedtime and have it interfere with your ability to fall asleep.

What do you do? Well, if you’ve download the new skill for Alexa, you just have to ask her if your security system is armed, and if it is in fact not armed and ready, just ask her to arm the system.

Or have you ever been home alone watching a scary movie and all of a sudden, you hear noises outside the window? If you have Alexa and SupremeConnect, just tell Alexa to “arm stay”. You will be sure that you are safe and secure; no matter if it’s Freddy Krueger, a potential intruder, or just a raccoon.

As you can see, using the new integration with Amazon Alexa is an easy way to control your security system. To learn more about Alexa’s integration with SupremeConnect for Honeywell and DMP systems and some of the other features of the app, visit our website! Or contact us today!
